Abstract

This article examines the relevance of the Lasswellian formula in the context of generative artificial intelligence. Its objective is to uncover the unexamined assumptions underlying this formula and to propose a conceptual reformulation. The methodology consists of a theoretical–analytical–conceptual approach that reconstructs the genealogy of the Lasswellian program and contrasts its implicit pillars—namely, the identifiability of the sender, the traceability of the channel, and the measurability of the effect—with astroturfing practices enhanced by generative AI systems. In doing so, it demonstrates the simultaneous erosion of these pillars and grounds the category of synthetic manufacturing of consent, defined by the industrial generation of content, psychographic personalization, automated coordination, and structural invisibilization. Through this conceptual analytical development, it is argued that Lasswell’s formula loses descriptive capacity, making it necessary to renew the methodological tools for analyzing propaganda.
