This article analyzes how initiatives that produce a different kind of journalism dispute communicational power in Latin America. Critiquing rigid typological approaches, the paper proposes a configurational perspective based on the political-ideological, socio-relational, organizational-labor, and technical-productive dimensions through which these initiatives operate. The study combines a theoretical review with content analysis of institutional documents from 25 journalistic initiatives. The findings indicate that the political-ideological dimension constitutes the most stable axis among the analyzed models, although it assumes distinct configurations according to its articulations with territoriality, institutional organization, productive strategies, and resource viability. The study argues that these initiatives reorganize forms of visibility, representation, and discursive legitimacy within the context of contemporary Latin American journalism.
