Mapping to Defend Life: Participatory Action Research, Open Technologies and Community Cartography in the Andean-Amazonian Pan-Amazon Region: The Case of Wairari Atun Sacha (Santa Rosa, Southern Cauca)

This article analyzes the participatory mapping process developed with the Wairari Atun Sacha indigenous council in southern Cauca as a Participatory Action Research (PAR) experience that brings together community knowledge and open technologies to produce territorial data in contested Pan-Amazonian contexts. It examines how the use of open mapping platforms, community monitoring, and geospatial recording strengthens community communication, indigenous governance, and territorial defense in the face of extractive and urban disputes. The study shows that the combination of PAR and open technologies not only generates information but also reconfigures power relations, territorial narratives, and local sustainability strategies.
